The presence of the calcareous nannofossils Nannoconus kamptneri minor and ?Speetonia colligata supports this stratigraphic interpretation. Calpionellids of the Alpina and Ferasini subzones of the standard Calpionella Zone confirm an early Berriasian age for both studied sequences. The associa-Tion of calpionellids is typical for the uppermost Tithonian to lower Berriasian age.Ī high-resolution multidisciplinary study of two profiles in the Kotouč Quarry at Štramberk was carried out to define the age and palaeoenvironmental setting of the peri-reefal Štramberk Limestone. Representatives of calpionellids Calpionella alpina (Lorenz), Calpionella grandalpina (Nagy), Crassicollaria massutiniana (Colom), Crassicollaria parvula (Remane), Tintinnopsella carpathica (Colom), Tmtinnopsella doliphormis (Colom) and calcareous dinoflagellates Cadosina semiradiata fusca (Wanner), Cadosina semiradiata cieszynica (Nowak), Cadosina semiradiata semiradiata (Wanner), Colomisphaera fortis (Rehanek), Colomisphaera radiata (Vogler), Colomisphaera lapidosa (Vogler) were determined. The micritic limestones provided determinable and stratigraphically important microfossils (Fig. Upper part of profile is represented by the lowest layers ofT&fn Limestone, formed by limestones, claystonesand marlstones. The Dinoflagellate cyst association is of late Tithonian age. Claystones of the Vendryn£ Formation provided a relatively poor association of non calcareous dinoflagellates with Circulodinium distinctum, Cometodinium sp., Cribroperidinium sp., Endoscrinium sp., Gonyaulacysta sp., Stiphrosphaeridium anthophorum, Systematophora areolata, Tubotuberela sp., Valensiella sp. Accumulation of limestones can be compared with the Ropice horizon, which occures in the uppernost part of the Vendryne Formation. These again are grey to dark grey, often with spines of echinoderms and bivalves on the surface. A very smal I part of limestone gravels are organodetri tic. Limestones are predominantly micritic, grey to dark grey in colour, some of them are spotted. Limestones represent gravels, blocks and concretions of size at least 1.5m in size. 2) is formed by the uppermost part of the Vendryn£ Formation, which is represented by dark grey calcareous daystones with concretions and blocks of limestones.
